Binging On Botox- Is Botox Addiction A Real Problem?
Many doctors in the US are suggesting that women are binging on Botox to the point where their faces have a frozen appearance. Botox for some women has become an obsession and is a real problem to the point of being a real “Botox addiction”.
The latest research on Botox injection was conducted by Dr Carter Singh,a psychologist, and Martin Kelly,a plastic surgeon with London Plastic Surgery Associates who stated that. “Botox injection is the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure yet the addictive appeal surrounding Botox has been largely ignored.”
Women who suffer from what many doctors term ‘Wrinklerexia’have become so obsessed with keeping wrinkles at bay that they begin to see wrinkles and lines where there are none and binge on Botox to get a freeze-frame face.
Botox can be injected into numerous facial areas, and provides an almost instant smoothing out of creases, wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes. The effects are not permanent, and you have to have repeat doctors visits to maintain the effects, and this is where some people have a problem. Some patients start to return before the treatment has worn off;demanding additional injections to keep the facial muscles paralyzed fearing the formation of wrinkles. The typical Botox treatment lasts three to six months.
Botox is fairly new drug used for cosmetic purposes,so really there is no known detrimental long term health studies on the prolonged use of Botox injections. Many doctors feel that when one area is frozen using Botox injection, other surrounding muscles begin to compensate and wrinkles will form there.
What Is The Right Amount Of Botox?
Many dermatologists strongly recommend that women and men who choose Botox to relax their wrinkles opt for smaller doses, and are turning patients away who demand treatment they don’t need. When Botox is used properly is can provide individuals with smoother, tighter and more youthful looking skin.
According to the manufacture the recommended dose to treat facial wrinkles is five injections of Botox, each containing 0.1 mL or four units of the drug,in specific areas above and between the eyebrows.
According to Dr Nick Milojevic,Botox Doctor at The Harley Medical Group said:“When used correctly,it’s extremely difficult to see if someone has had a Botox treatment. Botox has a fantastic preventative benefit, helping to prevent more wrinkles from forming while stopping lines and creases already present from deepening. ‘Baby Botox’,a lighter variation of the treatment, only uses extremely low doses of the toxin to give a very subtle and natural effect.”
